There will be a joint meeting with the Cabarrus County - TopicsExpress

There will be a joint meeting with the Cabarrus County Commissioners, Kannapolis City Schools, RCCC and Cabarrus County Schools tomorrow afternoon starting at 4:30 pm to discuss the content of the bond election our school board requested and that will be on the November 2014 ballot. After initial indications that $100 million could be placed on the bond issue without having to raise property taxes (older bonds are retiring soon), the indication we have received is that the commissioners are now leaning toward having $60 million on the bond. That was the value of the entire request that our board made in December. Since RCCC and Kannapolis are included, we obviously wont get all $60 million we have asked for. In fact, if past meetings are an indication tomorrows meeting will go something like this: RCCC - wed like $10 million for land and new building. Commissioners - are you sure thats enough? KCS - Wed like $23 million for a new middle school. Commissioners - are you sure thats enough? CCS - wed like $17 million to replace Royal Oaks Elementary School, $8.5 million to complete the funding of the replacement of Mt Pleasant Middle School, $2 million to make the Glenn Center handicap accessible and to upgrade the restrooms, $8.9 million to replace the oldest portions of Coltrane-Webb Elementary School and $9.7 million to replace the auditorium, cafeteria and some classrooms at Central Cabarrus HS. Commissioners - are you crazy? Do you think we are a money tree? Why do you want to waste the taxpayers money on these extravagant projects? Should be a really fun evening, but I am still hopeful we will come away with at least some of what we are asking for. And we will not stop asking until the needs of our school children are met.
