Theres always been a thing with UK rappers trying to avoid being - TopicsExpress

Theres always been a thing with UK rappers trying to avoid being like US rappers. I do kind of understand that, but at the same time I dont, because its just as dumb to define yourself in terms of an opposite as it is to imitate. Its still placing a limitation on yourself. Im not saying there isnt a lot of crap US hip-hop these days, but the genuinely good US hip-hop is so good because its creators arent trying to triangulate between other peoples expectations, or aim at a target audience, or avoid certain influences in case its not cool... they just do the music. Joey Bada$$ is a great example of that, as far as I can tell. I would love to see a UK rapper come through that was just relaxed in that way.
