There’s something about the first notes of a Samoan song that would make any Samoan want to dance, yes? This one in particular does it for me. “Sā Asomua” is the song of Siumu - Mums village and the village I identify the most with. The words Sā Asomua, Teine o le Laumoso’oi, Tama o le Laumoso’oi and Tuna’ula all refer to Siumu and its people. Famous for its fire-knife dancers, a 5 year old Siumu girl performed the opening fire knife dance during the South Pacific Games in 2007 and Siumu has the coldest village pool in Samoa called Leloloa. Sung by Felise Mikaele (also of Siumu), this song includes the salutation (fa’alupega) of the village. For my Siumu FBers scattered around the globe during this Samoan Language Week.
