These are swell times for Governor Ayodele Fayose. After a campaign full of promises and high hopes, Ekiti people are face to face with the realities of political deceit by a consummate political businessman. The Monitors gathered that the governor has directed that all the activities, including finances, at SUBEB and Bureau of Chieftaincy Matters that were formerly located in the Deputy Governors Office, be relocated to the Governors Office. He also directed slash in the running grants of civil servants in his office while all protocol matters, including finances, are directly under his office. He has cut running grants in SUBEB from N5m to N2m while traditional rulers pay has been reduced by 60 percent. Promotions in civil service are to wait while those previously promoted from March this year must return their promotion letters. For now, now recruitment in the civil service and teachers are too many, hence there is need for screening, which has claimed three teachers, including a pregnant woman. To ensure he has his hands on all the piles, the governor called his Deputy, Dr Abiodun Eleka, to his office and asked: How much is your security vote as deputy governor? The man replied: N25m per month. The governor asked again: How much is your running grant as a lecturer in the university? The man kept quiet. The governor reminded him that the state is broke and since the deputy governor does not have much to do in the reform he wants to introduce in his administration, he told Dr Eleka that he cant get more than N5m per month. Surprisingly, the governor increased his security vote from N100m to N200m per month and he has added the 20m difference he lashed from his Deputy, but then the state is broke!
