They loaded in the wagon, with the cans tied on behind The preacher had just wedded them, they vowed the tie that binds They left the little church yard, and friends there in the dust and headed for the ranch, they should get there just at dusk The mule he was bull headed, and he balked and stopped and so The rancher got on down, and punched him squarely in the nose He pointed his index finger, as he chided that old mule He said thats ONE, and got back up sayin, I took him to school Not far along the mule again, decided to act up The rancher got down one more time, and hit him with a club He said thats TWO, you wayward mule, and dont you test my patience The wife was shocked, and not to happy with the ranchers antics A little way on down the road, the mule would not be led The rancher stepped down one more time and shot him in the head He said, thats THREE, your last to balk on me you stupid mule His bride was all aghast and said whyd you do that you old fool, You killed the only mule we have, that wasnt very nice The rancher looked up at his bride, with eyes as cold as ice He stood a moment, with his hand still on his smokin gun and with voice to match his eyes said, OK wife thats ONE.
