Think about it. Scotland is facing a referendum vote on whether to remain under the control of Great Britain. Now the question is: should the British military invade Scotland, and force them to remain in the United Kingdom, even though they might vote to go do their own thing? The United States had a right to secede from Britain during the Revolutionary War, due to the treatment by the British government. But during the Civil War, the Confederate States were refused the right to secede from the treatment by the U.S. government. Interesting to me anyway.
