This Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Father Mike Homily - TopicsExpress

This Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, Father Mike Homily Nugget of Wisdom #3: I imagine if you’re Peter, James, and John, not only do you love this whole glory that the Lord shows you with Moses and Elijah, but I also imagine them thinking, “It’s just us!” Like “Jesus, we don’t have to have those thousands of people who are surrounding you all the time. But now I just get to spend time with You. And I want to be here because You’re here.” But what does the Lord say? "We have to leave. We have to go." I imagine Peter saying, “Lord let’s stay. I don’t want to go. I don’t want to leave this.” Because where are they headed? They go from the top of Mount Tabor; shortly thereafter they make their way up to Jerusalem to the top of Mount Calvary. “I don’t want to go there.” Here’s the thing. A lot of us really, really love Tabor. A lot of us love the Transfiguration. I don’t know about you, I don’t know if you’ve had the experience of that encounter with Christ, and when He gives His graces to you, and you’re like, “I feel so close to you Lord, and I love following you Lord, and I just have this great sense of love for you Lord. I want to stay here.” But He says, “You can’t stay here.” We have to understand this. Did anyone get saved at this scene of the Transfiguration? Did the Transfiguration save anyone? Did it redeem the world? No. Where did our redemption happen? On Mount Calvary. No one was saved by seeing God’s glory shine through Jesus. But the world was redeemed and saved by Jesus emptying Himself on the Cross. “But I don’t want to go to the Cross. I don’t want to be stripped of what I need to be stripped of.” What’s the key? The key that opens this door is LOVE. “God, I want to stay on the top of Mount Tabor, on the Mount of Transfiguration. I don’t want to go to Calvary but…if You’ll be there, then I’ll go too. If you’re calling me to the Cross, Lord, I’ll go…if You’ll be there. “ The access to God’s glory is love. ...The only thing that’ll get us to move is love. The only thing that can save us is love, the love of the One who loved us so much that He Himself left that Mountain of Transfiguration and went to the Mountain of the Cross. So brothers and sisters, if you go to that Cross, do not be afraid. Because you will not be alone. You can go there because He’ll be there too.
