This Halloween marks the 19th year in a row that Lieutenant Hunter has delivered pumpkins to the children at Scottish Rite Hospital to honor his late son. There are over 250 pumpkins, donated by Burts Pumpkin Farm, in the bed of his truck for this trip! Lieutenant Hunter tragically lost his son, Bubba, 19 years ago due to neuroblastoma, a rare type of childhood cancer. Bubba was 9 when he was diagnosed and 11 when he passed away. Those of us who have worked for Lieutenant Hunter over the years know how deeply he cared for his son and how he continues to honor Bubbas memory in so many ways. While Bubba was at Scottish Rite undergoing treatment, he and his father were carving a pumpkin. Bubba was very careful to save the seeds, telling his father that he wished to grow pumpkins after he was well enough to leave the hospital. Bubba wanted to bring pumpkins to the other children receiving treatment the following year. After Bubba died, his father honored his sons wish and continues to do so today.
