This New York Times piece, by Harvard behavioral economist Sendhil Mullainathan, is an excellent summary of key research into contemporary racial bias in the U.S. If youre looking for one quick read in this area, or to have a link to share with those who doubt that racial bias still pervades this society, this is the one. Please note that the headline, and the piece itself, refer to we or us as having implicit racial bias, good intentions, etc. The author is speaking about all Americans, including black and other non-white Americans, whom research shows also tend to suffer from pro-white racial bias. Nevertheless, some may find it disconcerting to read how we suffer from bias against African Americans, despite our best intentions, how we need to look inward to understand racial tensions today, and so forth.
