This afternoon there was a beautiful sunset. I think God made it especially for me. It was a crimson glow which enhanced greatly the array of colors which are within the hills. As it slowly faded and finally glimmered into a distant, feeble flicker, I thought how my winter has been so much like that sunset. So breathtaking in the beginning but now fading away prior to the twilight hour. Yes, not only was this day the twilight of my trapping winter, but also the end of an era. Journal entry March 1, 1975. (As a footnote, indeed it was the end of an era. In the ensuing years that I pursued this business, there was never one that touched my soul like the winter of 1974-75.
