This coming February, I have the amazing opportunity to go on a mission trip to Nicaragua with 7 other Assumption High School seniors. We will be going with an organization called Hand in Hand Ministries. We will be staying in Nicaragua for a week and will be getting away from all distractions at home and focus on those who really need our help. Nicaragua is a beautiful country but there is so much more than meets the eye. The six million people who make up Central America’s largest country are among the poorest in the western hemisphere. During our time there, we will either be building a small home or doing repairs or renovations at a local school, clinic, family home or a community preschool. We have been told that we will get the opportunity to spend time with the kids at the local school and build friendships with the families we interact with. I am so excited to have this opportunity. I have looked forward to this since I first heard about Mission Week at my school and that seniors get this chance to go out of the country to help those in need.
