This could be interesting to analyze. There could be a whole variety of controlling factors. It would be interesting to get more detailed information about the people who ply these occupations, such as: Age, gender, location, education, training, and how they got started. Off the top of my head is: • Whether the entry barriers favor some ethnic groups over others – like ironworkers in New York City. • Or is there an exceptional lure towards certain occupations within the community – like police and firemen from Statin Island • Are the entry paths into the occupation limited to relatives – Like steel worker apprenticeships when Lackawanna still had a steel industry? • Do areas inhabited by some ethnic groups have a predominant occupation – like ranching for native peoples growing up on certain reservations? • Are they occupations which tend to be run as family businesses, such as funeral directors? • Do the occupations require better schooling, and the opportunity for such better schooling? The chart raises many questions
