This department was recently notified that unidentified individuals representing themselves as part of the Hershey Fire Department arrived at the home of one of our residents. These individuals stated they were there to do a home inspection, and a smoke alarm check. They entered the house with the homeowners consent. At this point, it is unknown if anything criminal occurred within the home. PLEASE REMEMBER: 1. While the Fire Department may occasionally do inspections, these are usually initiated by the home owner calling the Fire Department. The member would arrive in a Hershey Volunteer Fire Department vehicle. If you are unsure of our vehicles, please visit our website (hersheyfire.org) and click "Apparatus". 2. In case of an Emergency, we may need to gain access into your home or you may be evacuated. This is done by Firefighters while in full gear, or by a representative of the Fire Department in an official vehicle. 3. Remember that we do not solicit for donations over the phone. Our only solicitation is by mail for our annual fund drive. If someone shows up at your home demanding access inside, and you did not initiate or feel comfortable with the situation, please notify the Derry Township Police by calling 911, or 717-534-2202. If you have any questions, please leave a comment.
