This evening Sugar is at the vet for the beginning of her - TopicsExpress

This evening Sugar is at the vet for the beginning of her heartworm treatment. She looks so lovely and is SO sweet that her sad past stays a secret. An older German gentleman picking up his elderly terrier fell in LOVE with Sugar, talking to and petting her--and she loved him back. Rufus came home with me to see if he can foster here temporarily. For the first time in his life, he was free to roam the yard. Thats pretty monumental. He gets along great with Cooper. Tesla pulled some alpha-dog moves on him, he submitted and now pretends like shes invisible. Rusty tried to cow him with her alpha-wanna-be attitude. Rufus didnt have a clue what that was about. So Rusty is a bit crestfallen and pouty and Rufus is just plain avoiding her. The vet has been struggling to get Rufus to gain weight. I added a tablespoon of peanut butter to his food. Well see if that plus lots of love and training treats will make him glow with good health. I imagine six years of abuse is ingrained in every molecule of his body and is going to take awhile to erase. Im keeping Rufus crated in the house for now. Hes not house trained and hes super interested in the cats, barking insanely whenever they are in sight. Well let a routine settle in and get him familiar with everyone and then Ill introduce him to Blackie, the great cat negotiator. So glad all three of these dogs are not out in tonights bitter cold with empty stomachs and minimal shelter. We need foster/forever homes for Gus and Rufus. And truly need help with the medical bills ($1500+ still, because of the heartworm treatment). You can help here:
