This films been making the rounds online lately.... digg/video/comic-book-heaven Short film about a little shop called Comic Book Heaven and its old-time owner. Hes called a curmudgeon, but after watching the film a couple of times, I just look at him like a guy whos doing this own thing. Its a wonderful little movie, actually. Check it out. Ive sometimes thought itd be cool to have a little bookstore like this, where Id mostly only stock back issues. Screw having a Diamond Distributors account and relying on suck ass Marvel and DC stunts month in and month out. Back issues and old comics magazines and Treasury Comics and old comic book pocket paperbacks. Let locals put some of their art on the wall. Maybe even have a drafting table or two so folks could work on some of the comics. Heck, Id even work on my comics at the shop. Eat my lunch on a little table while customers are browsing. Maybe have some small, low-key signings once in a while. No superstars, just local talent. Push indie and self-published comics, but really have rows and rows and boxes full of 70s/80s/90s comics. Marvel, DC, Image, anything thats cheap. Some pricey wall books just for decoration, maybe. Yeah, maybe when I reach retirement age Ill find me a modest little store in a small little town somewhere. Try to cultivate just enough of a customer base to stay ahead. Its a nice little thought, anyway.
