This fire was the talk of the town today. It was a very dramatic event that naturally creates curiosity about the cause. I want to encourage everyone to refrain from spreading false rumors about both the cause and the manner in which mutual aid from our neighbors in Mason, Washburn, Marengo Valley, and Bad River were called to the scene. Any of those judgments will be based upon incomplete information without knowing the big picture of what was going on last night. Not everything is broadcast over the radio. There is an investigation taking place which we hope will get to the bottom of the cause. I am grateful for several things today: 1/ that no one was living in the building; 2/ that no one was injured in this fire; and 3/ that the quick response and cooperation by the Ashland Fire Dept. along with our neighboring fire departments prevented the fire from spreading and causing further damage. What I witnessed in the wee hours of the morning was a model of professionalism, excellence, and cooperation that we can be proud of. I want to thank all who responded and worked long hours in the cold for a job well done,.
