This generation has lost their sense of identity, aspiring to European values and looks. This brain-washing manifests itself in those trying to immitate the Media Moguls they are presented with. The Self-hate lines the pockets of the cosmetic industry selling millions of Skin bleaching, hair straightening, Caucasian/Asian textured wigs and hair products. Our youths need re-educating to love themselves, be themselves and to appreciate their natural beauty. They need to know their history, the journey of our forebears who had societies far superior than Western Societies and were literate long before the Caucasians came out of their caves. My generation were fortunate and grew up in an era of self awareness, unity and pride. My teen years were spent in the days of Angela Davis, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Rap Brown, George Jackson, Jackson 5, James Brown with his inspiring lyrics Say it Loud, Im Black and Im Proud; boosting our self-pride, self-worth mental and moral strength, in an age of blatant racial discrimination, in schools, at work, in society at large, and of course Bob Andy & Marcia Griffiths with lyrics of Young Gifted and Black! Many of us have failed as parents and mentors to pass such self-awareness and pride onto the next generation who are lost in a cultural maize, having no roots they sway and bend in the wind with many blown away turning to straw to line the bread baskets of others who exploit their weaknesses. No truer word said than the late great Marcus Garvey... A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots. Say it loud!
