This has been posted now and confirmed. I knew yesterday that she had committed suicide but only learning now how. It is deeply saddening - any suicide is. But by this means, it was so final. I had hoped that possibly it was accidental but had a feeling it was not. I am so pained in feeling like she was this unhappy and that there was no way out for her, that she felt there was no alternative. I hope in all this sadness, something good comes out of it. We all need to be aware of signs and symptoms of suicide, and even then, feeling okay can be so easy to disguise. But we all need to try - a kind word, a shoulder to lean on, a phone call, an email, just reach out to the best of our ability. May you rest in peace Sophia A Yin. Your legacy will live on in those who want to promote low stress handling techniques, positive, reward-based training, research in animal behavior, and of course build relationships and have fun with their pets. I hope wherever you are now you can see just how much you were revered and respected and good enough. You were influential in so many ways to the animal and veterinary communities. With tears in my eyes, you will be very missed.
