This includes the invasion of Bundy’s land by a host of federal agents earlier this year when they corralled and penned nearly 300 of his cattle without Bundy’s permission to do so, due to their claim that Bundy has failed to follow federal law regarding cattle grazing in the state. The standoff that ensued involved hundreds of armed agents, as well as Bundy’s own patriotic militia supporters that came to his aid and went toe-to-toe with the federal agents from the BLM, FBI, and other agencies. After figuring out that the last thing the government needed was a large shootout over disputed cattle grazing territory, which surely would have left several on both sides dead, the Feds backed down and left Bundy and his land alone. Until now. In an interview with Clark County Sheriff-elect Joe Lombardo, he stated that the FBI has launched a criminal investigation into Bundy that could result in federal criminal charges against Bundy and his operation. Lombardo was a tactical commander the day of the standoff, and instead of coming to Bundy’s defense, he took a backseat to the large federal force, diminishing the sheriff’s department’s role in the situation. Lombardo isn’t sure of any timelines involving the charges filed against Bundy or if federal agents will seek his assistance to apprehend Bundy when the time comes. He claims he will do his best to facilitate a surrender for Bundy. But Bundy isn’t having that. When asked about the criminal charges, Bundy said, “What are they going to charge me with? When you start talking about who the criminal is, if somebody is going to put handcuffs on me and take me to jail, what’s going to be the crime?” As far as Bundy is concerned, he’s paid his dues to the government. “If I owe so damn much money, like $1.2 million, why don’t they bill me?” He summed up the highly political situation perfectly when he said, “What does that have to do with dollars? It don’t have nothin’ to do with dollars.” Bundy made it clear that he’s ready to continue the fight, if necessary.
