This is Spring, a 15 year-old who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease during a doctors visit for a fever. She was predicted to not live past 14 because her family didnt have enough money to pay for her surgery. Unlike those living in developed countries, children in developing regions do not have insurance that would cover medical expenses. Oftentimes they struggle to even obtain the basic necessities for life. Because of organizations like Angel Heart International, her life was extended, and I had the opportunity to really see and touch poverty. I am sharing her story because I want all of my friends to appreciate what we have. We actually have it really good. Children like Spring dont have access to computers, TVs, or even a suitable bed. If she doesnt get into a college with a good scholarship and move out, shell probably (1) stay in her village, get married to an older man who she has never met, but her family wouldnt really mind because she is a girl; (2) stays at home to farm, take care of her siblings, and cater to the elders in her family; or (3) enter the city to work as a waitress for an annual income of $1500; and of course, she may be offered a chance to work in a nightclub for better pay. I think it is important to realize that each of us was given an absolute opportunity being in the U.S. and also given the power to change the world and make it a better place. No matter what profession, as long as you set your heart out, you will be successful. And when you are successful, give. #angelheart #give
