This is Wilsons Story... Hit by two cars, one right after another. Neither car stopped to help him. But while laying in the road a good Samaritan saw something ahead and it was moving. Thank the Dog Gods for people who love animals... This tiny 104 lb. woman and her friend picked up this terribly injured dog and placed him gently in the back seat. They knew he must be helped. They rushed him to a local vet right away. And even while in obvious pain, the dog wagged his tail slowly and tried to give the vet a lick while listening to his heart. Despite no owner, the vet could knew this dog with terrible injuries deserved a chance. It was determined that this dog, now called Wilson, would need to have his front leg amputated. One of our volunteers found his story and a short video on a rescue site. She had no business looking at dogs in need, but none of us do, since Mischelle already has a couple of large foster dogs still recovering from their time at the shelter. Still, Mischelle knew she must do something. Wilsons time was ticking away. The cost of his surgery was as high as $1300 and not only were funds needed to pay for this surgery, but a foster was needed as well. Animal lovers are great networkers. Many requests went out for a foster or rescue for Wilson. So may people trying to help, but would help be found in time? Following Wilsons updates, Mischelle became involved in trying to help him. WTand F had no fosters available for a large, injured, and unknown dog. But Mischelle would not let it go. 7 days later, after many emails flying from person to person, Michelle decided she would foster Wilson once he had his surgery. Somewhere, somehow, one of these amazing volunteers found a local vet to do the surgery at cost, and a sponsor to pay for it! A volunteer named Tonia also stepped in as someone in his area to care for him during the few weeks he will need to heal after surgery. She runs a small rescue and had managed a Vet Clinic for 7 years, so she is a perfect foster for Wilson while he rests and grows stronger in the coming weeks. By this point Mischelle is completely vested in saving Wilson, her heart is pounding every time she checks on his updates. She emails many times a day sharing everything she learns with the other WTand F volunteers. The last real hurdle was to ask Margo if Wilson could be accepted into our Whiskers, Tails and Ferals rescue. It was a short hurdle, Margos answer was simple. He has help with the funding, he has an experienced foster mom willing to take him on, so it seems it was meant to be! Mischelle was thrilled Wilson would really have the help he needed to begin his new life. Wilson would be saved! The update emails Mischelle sent that day were written with tears in her eyes. Wilson was scheduled for his surgery that following Tuesday The day of his surgery was a regular work day for Michelle. Waiting was not easy as she pretended to be completely at ease. Soon after she was messaged that Wilsons surgery went well and he was resting nicely on the new bed and blankets alongside his new toys the unknown sponsor had bought for him. Who is this sponsor, this Angel of Mercy? Why did strangers pull over, put him in her car to find a vet willing to help? Something amazing was happening here. Wilson must be a very special dog. The good news was short lived, Mischelle received an urgent text that Wilson was not having a good evening, and she should follow the posts for updates. Wilson was bleeding excessively and it wasnt known if he would make it. But he did. The vet was able to stop the bleeding, but Wilson would need to stay at the hospital a little longer. Such a huge sigh of relief! Sandy, one of the women to stop and help Wilson, visited him that next morning. She shared that he was doing great after spending the night at the Vets own home. Apparently the Vet also has a soft spot for Wilson, and he would be spending the next couple of nights there. And while the Hospital is closed for the weekend, Wilson will be spending his time with an Animal control officer. Amazing. The number of warm hearts grows. It is inspiring to realize there are people that care so deeply ready to help an animal in need. Hopefully after a check-up with the vet Monday he will then be released to Tonia to receive the excellent care he needs to get ready for his trip to Napa. Mischelle will be getting Wilson in about 3 weeks. She hasnt met this dog, yet her heart has been touched so deeply by him. To foster a dog or cat, to know you are a part of saving an animal, it is a feeling only another animal rescue volunteer can know. Today, Mischelles updates were written with a huge smile on her face. She can hardly wait for him to come home. Those feelings Mischelle is enjoying are feelings you can experience also. There are so many Wilsons out there needing our help. If you want a pet, please ADOPT from a shelter or rescue. If you already have a pet, consider fostering a dog or cat. We have mentors ready to get you started. There is no way to describe how amazing it is knowing you helped save an animals life. It is life changing. Wilson will be available for adoption once he is fully healed. Follow Wilsons journey here on Facebook. Along with us, meet the person or family who will adopt him and give him the life that dreams are made of.
