This is a bottle of Ishebe, a traditional delicacy made from groundnut. My wife bought this recently and when I tested it, it felt good in my mouth. So I decided to check where in Nigeria it came from. Lo and behold! Its from the United States of America! I am bothered! Why do I bother, why am I bothered? For decades Bekwarra has been farming groundnut in large quantities for commercial and subsistent purposes. Unfortunately, the produce has never been properly processed into exportable product. Sometime ago, there was an attempt to set up a factory that could process groundnut either to extract oil or some other products, but I guess the dream was not sustained. I am bothered because Nigeria used to be known for its groundnut pyramids, yet in 2014 we consume ishebe that was made in the USA! What a shame! Though I feel like vomiting the groundnut paste which the US has christened Peanut Butter, but there are several other things that are nauseating me already. If I were to embark on a vomiting exercise to demonstrate my disgust and contempt for the several things happening around Nigeria, I sure would vomit my intestines!
