This is a great start to the conversation, but many perspectives - TopicsExpress

This is a great start to the conversation, but many perspectives are left out. What about the style of dance youve spent your life mastering? What about the reality of racism within the academic structure? What about the artists who come to the table with decades of experience but no big name company experience, no preferred technical training, and no degree? Their application/resume is usually thrown out before they can even step in the door and tell you about all they learned in Cuba, all they gained in Ghana, the cultural movement of Australia...can students not grow and learn from that as well? And just as a moment of honesty, the NYU perspective touted in this piece is such the antithesis of my experience, but I did not fit into their system either so... Favorite quote: There are still misconceptions about dance, and it’s deep because there is still this division in a lot of Western thought which is that the university is about the separation of the mind and the body. There’s a practical application of getting the curriculum across but there’s also this broader devaluing of body knowledge in general over mental knowledge. That comes up in general tenure and things like writing instead of practice. anabellalenzu.wordpress/2014/10/28/am-i-going-to-get-a-job-its-highly-unlike/ Thanks for sharing Sydnie Mosley
