This is a letter I have sent to CBS in support of the Star Trek - TopicsExpress

This is a letter I have sent to CBS in support of the Star Trek Enterprise Season 5 - Netflix campaign. I mention that campaign as well as the Renegades project. I do not mention Titan. I hope it will be evident why that is. Maybe some will see the criticism in it. Dear CBS I am writing to request that you bring back Star Trek Enterprise. I am part of an online community that feels Star Trek Enterprise did not get its fair share being canceled after only 4 seasons. All of the other Star Trek series were granted 7 season to tell the stories that made Star Trek the stand out show that it is. The Star Trek Enterprise Season Five on Netflix Campaign on Facebook has over 50,000 followers. This is just a small indication that the fan base is rallying and wants to see more Enterprise. Much work has already been done to begin the process, models have been built and upgraded to the latest technology, the concepts for sets have been digitally planned out and we fans have been very excited to see the plots of the Romulan war play out on screen. We all believe that streaming is the future of television, and that Netflix would be the perfect venue to showcase this groundbreaking series. Star Trek has always been a show that set the bar for others. It’s time for Star Trek Enterprise to continue its voyages for a fifth season and beyond. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Egan Penney P.S. On a personal note, I would like to recommend that you bring Michael A. Martin on board. His Romulan War arc would make an excellent inspiration for season 5 of Enterprise, with some modification, particularly in miniseries format, or TV movies. I would also like to strongly voice my support for the Star Trek: Renegades pilot project. Star trek still has a lot of potential, particularly in this new market of large franchises currently led by Marvel Studios. By thinking outside the framework of long-running television series and into the realm of Television movies and miniseries, Netflix series, and Youtube shorts, Star Trek can be expanded not only into new stories, but new genres. There is a fan project called Star Trek: Aurora that serves as a perfect example of how that can be accomplished. Some other franchise ideas that I think would work: The proposed spin-off Assignment: Earth. Reshoot the pilot, but use the original footage of the Trek Cast. Then build a series in the style of the IDW Assignment Earth comics, and adapt the Eugenics wars novels by Greg Cox. A miniseries set on earth after first contact, starring James Cromwell. Primarily a political drama, with similar themes to the first season of Roddenberrys Earth: Final Conflict. A TV movie adaptation of Coxs To Reign In Hell. I recommend Faran Tahir for the lead. If you guys feel that the starfleet crew exploring space sci fi formula is played out, then dont let Star Trek be confined to that formula. Boldly take it to new places. P.P.S. There are a lot of people, including younger people like myself, who want to have real Star Trek back, so we can forget about those awful films. Particularly for the 50th anniversary of the original series. The world right now needs the inspiration that Star Trek offers. It has always been a powerful tool for promoting public interest in science. Im hoping Foxs Cosmos series is showing that there is a market in that. As a matter of fact, Im sure Seth Macfarlane would absolutely jump at the chance to take Star Trek in a new direction, and I think he would be the perfect man for the job. Star Trek can compete in a market against studios like Marvel, because it has an even longer history to draw upon to create an overarching universe. But can we please just forget those last two films ever happened? I was in the target age bracket for those movies back in 09, and I was insulted by how little those movies expected of me as a viewer. I never saw the second one, and if a third is made, I wont see that either, and I get the impression nobody else will either. Bring back real star trek. Its good business, good art, and good for society.
