This is a letter from a female prisoner in Assads dungons of the Security Branches: Layla, my little girl, was 12 when I was detained. For two years, I knew nothing about her, for I was in a security detention center. I got a chance to talk to her when I was transported to prison. When her voice, unrecognizable for me, reached me… I was lost for words… my daughter was 15 already! For three long years, I wasnt by her side as she grew up, didnt share her sorrows and knew nothing about how her days were like. I left her a child, and she is now a young woman perusing her studies. More often than not, we were silent for the whole three-minute call we were allowed. It seemed the only common language we had. There was no time for us to start understanding each other. You see the gravity of my loss? My life is being wasted in a cell for no other crime than practicing my profession, honoring my oath and healing my wounded countrymen. No one can give me back what I have lost: my years and the precious moments with my family. Some of the noblest friends I have known died before my eyes despite desperate attempts to save them. Death and the brutality of the wardens were faster and stronger. I miss my daughter and my two sons… I hope I won’t miss them forever. I know you cannot help me, but you can save Syrians by stopping Assad who is terrorizing innocent people in Syria. They are arrested, stripped from their humanity and treated like animals. Do you want to know how and what we eat? Want me to tell you about our rotting bodies? Any idea how we urinate? If you cannot save the detainees, save Syrians before they are detained, then killed.
