This is a little late but yesterday, I was in the presence of a special kind of awesomeness. The coffee was on me: I had coffee with one of the firefighters from the CDF. He was working the Morgan Fire on Mount Diablo. Twenty four hours on the mountain and 8 hours off. His unit was dropped off at the summit at the height of the fire and given the task of protecting the historic buildings and radio tower. He said the literally had to hike down the mountain to get to a safe pick up point at the end of their shift. While these brave men were putting their lives on the line to stop a wildfire from moving into the populated areas that surround Mount Diablo, two firestations were burglarized in the Clayton area. Wedding rings, watches, Ipads and laptops along with other personal property were taken from one firehouse (the backdoor was pried open). The burglary was interrupted at the second firestation and nothing was taken.
