This is a pet peeve of mine... my thoughts are as follows: Charities that convert less than 75% of their donations into direct benefits to their cause should lose their tax exempt status and the tax rate should be particularly high for failing to meet the 75% margin. If a charity (company) fails to convert more than 50% of their donations into direct charitable benefits for any 24 month period. Their officers and board members should face criminal charges on a sliding scale commensurate with their "fraudulent" activities. ANY charity that fails to exceed 25% conversion to charitable benefits for any 24 month period should be shutdown and board members and officers should face felony criminal charges with mandatory jail times (no probation) upon conviction.
