This is a public safety announcement. Last year I attempted to - TopicsExpress

This is a public safety announcement. Last year I attempted to eradicate the three yucca plants in my yard. These plants flower once a year for one week. They suck you in with their beauty. However the other 51 weeks of year the yucca is the single ugliest plant on the planet. My husband and I started with shovels. Until we hit the root system. The Yucca plant has a root that has the consistency of a coconut and is large enough to make an Oak tree blush. We then used axes and finally a chain saw to remove the offending tumors. After hours we thought we had succeeded in removing the sinister creatures. This spring instead of the 3 starter yucca plants we now have 12 yucca shoots. So once again I went into battle mode. Three hours of digging, swearing and finding roots like octopus tentacles. Did I get them all? Not a chance. Next year there will likely be 128 yucca shoots and I will have to buy a back hoe to continue my fight against this vicious threat to our gardens. My advice? If anyone offers you a Yucca, you should treat the plant as hazardous waste or a deadly disease, like Ebola. Dont waste time with small acts of destruction or god forbid composting. No. Immediately douse the plant with kerosene and incinerate. Bag the remains and place in solid steel encasement. Bury in the Mohave Desert.
