This is a similar comment I posted on a friends page about the movie, Noah. Thought Id share with the rest of you. I saw NOAH last night and I kept laughing in places that were meant to be serious, Im sure. It was just so off the charts melodramatic at times that it came across comedic to me. If I were to review this movie it would start like this: The only two things that the movie NOAH has in common with the historical narratives (mainly from the Bible) is that the central characters name is Noah, and there is a flood. Pretty much everything else was a total departure from any story of Noah that anyone has ever heard. The thing I thought was most hysterical was the giant talking rock formations (ala Transformers) that claimed they were angels punished by the Creator for simply trying to help mankind. I am a big fan of The Suspension of Disbelief when going to the theatre or to movies. With this movie I couldnt do it. I just kept seeing Russel Crowe chewing the scenery, and these rock formations sprung from the imagination of what appeared to be a 12 year old child. If anyone saw the movie Galaxy Quest with Tim Allen, these talking rock formations reminded me of the Rock being that chased Tim Allen around on the surface of an alien planet. (see attached photo) I couldnt take that seriously, either. But, of course, that WAS a comedy. And Noah has a similar amount of pure fantasy, not something I wouldve expected from a film about a historical person whose producers claim was inspired by or based on the Genesis story. The makers of NOAH couldnt even keep a few facts the same as the Biblical narrative. Something as minimal as the number of people who were in the Ark, the fact that all three sons had wives with them, etc. It was almost like the makers of this film were purposefully trying to oppose everything we know of the story as it is found in the Biblical narrative. So why they would claim that it was inspired by the Genesis story eludes me, except to try and pull in the religious groups to see it. I guess Hollywood has learned nothing from Mark Burnett and Roma Downey who produced The Bible, the most watched mini-series in the history of cable television. Or the recently released and successful film by this couple, The Son of God. These two projects kept true to the Biblical narrative and were both gripping, moving, entertaining, etc. Nothing was lost staying true to the actual story. To say this movie was inspired by or even loosely based on the the Genesis story, is an insult to the Genesis story.
