This is a statue of Naoe Kanetsugu which stands at Zenibuchi Park in Minami-Uonuma city, Niigata prefecture. Naoe Kanetsugu (1560-1619) was a samurai warlord who served Uesugi Kagekatsu in the Sengoku period (or Warring States period from mid-15th to early 17th century). He was a "Karo" (chief retainer) who supported the Uesugi clan, and was also recognized by Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu. #Samurai
