This is a wonderful piece for todays Poster From The Past. MY gosh.......48 years has past since March 18th, 1966, when the Batman Dance/Concert and Film Festival took place at the Fillmore Auditorium here in San Francisco. One of the rarest and most unusual posters in the BG Fillmore series, this was Wes Wilsons first poster for Bill Graham, BG Fillmore #2. Wess comic-book Batman and Robin contemplate, the famous mynah bird, an on-stage feature of early Fillmore concerts. The show itself was a prime example of the eclectic nature of Fillmore events in the early days. On the play-bill for that first night was the Mystery Trend, Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Family Tree. The second night of the event Quicksilver Messenger Service, Family Tree and The Gentleman Band played and the final night Quicksilver was back along with the Great Society and Skins performed for an awestruck audience. There is so much going on in this busy poster that it never ceases to amaze and entertain me and most others that gaze upon it as well. It was printed three times. At auction just a couple of weeks ago a first printing of this poster went for a shade under $20,000! Yep, you read that right…. Share the Caped Crusader with your friends!
