This is an important message for those in the medical arena. Its a more important message for parents. The economic driver in medicine is various levels crisis care. The level of crisis can range from mild symptoms like allergies to life threatening conditions like heart attacks and strokes. This talk is not rocket science. Of course it makes more sense intellectually to focus on prevention rather than the crisis. So why dont we do that in medicine? The reason is economics-money. As an emergency room Dr,I made $200,000/year only working 3 days/week. The year I completely converted over to being what this Dr calls an upstreamist I made $16,000,less than a McDonalds employee. Not an incentive for most programmed to base their social validity on how big their house is,what kind of car they drive and where they go for vacation. Point is,it wont be doctors involved in upstreamology ( I just made that word up). The upstreamologists will be parents. My experience is that those most involved in upstreamology will be women. Genetically, hormonally, psychically, your blueprint is to nurture. A large part or that nurturing is food delivery. Women make most of the decisions about family meals. This makes your impact on health even more important than prenatal care. What you feed your sons and daughters will determine the health of the sperm and egg that combine to make future generations. It will determine the health of your daughters uterine environment when she becomes pregnant. The food you now serve determines whether her child will incubate for 9 months in an environment of 200 industrial chemicals, many of which cause cancer. Youre not just delivering food. Youre creating or destroying health for future generations.
