WAUKEGAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Community Unit School District No. 60, Lake County, Illinois PRIORITY MAIL 60 News Releases Bulletin Carman-Buckner Awarded Fruits and Veggies Grant Students at Carman-Buckner Elementary School will once again see an increase in their fruit and vegetable options at school, thanks to the Illinois State Board of Educations Fresh Fruits and Vegetable Program (FFVP). Carman-Buckner is one of more than 200 Illinois schools to be awarded an FFVP grant. In total, Carman-Buckner will receive $34,350. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program earmarks funds to states who then distribute to schools already participating in the USDAs National School Lunch Program. The goal is to provide free fresh fruits and vegetables to students outside of regular school meals. FFVP provides all students in participating schools access to a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables at least twice a week. This will be the third consecutive year that Carman-Buckner will be participating in the program.
