This is from a few minutes ago. Light to moderate snow is being reported throughout the Texas Department of Transportations (TxDOT) Childress District*. TxDOT crews hve been working through threw the night and are currently treating roadways and blading snow. Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must, use extreme caution and be alert for emergency responders and TxDOT workers who are on the roadway responding to incidents. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, do not use the cruise control and remove all distractions to avoid wrecks or becoming involved in a secondary collision. Roadways are reported as mostly clear with patchy ice in some areas. All equipment has been serviced and ready for the night crew to monitor road conditions and begin snow and ice removal as the storm materializes. According to the National Weather Service, a significant storm will move back in the area overnight and produce 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice and approximately 2 inches of snow. Drivers are strongly advised to avoid any unnecessary travel. Those who must travel should use extreme caution and be alert for emergency responders and TxDOT workers who are on the roadway responding to incidents. Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and remove all distractions to avoid wrecks or becoming involved in a secondary collision. Freezing drizzle continues to fall in isolated areas and motorists should be aware that icy conditions may still exist on some roadways. According to the National Weather Service, freezing drizzle, turning into snow will begin sometime tomorrow afternoon. The Texas Department of Public Safety reminds drivers to follow these important rules when driving in these conditions. 1. Slow down to a speed where you can maintain control of your vehicle. 2. Buckle up everyone in the vehicle. 3. Do not follow too closely. 4. Start slowing down as you approach intersections and be prepared to wait on other vehicles approaching from the opposite direction. 5. Make sure your windows are thawed out before you start driving. 6. Check all your tires and fluid levels in your vehicle including anti-freeze. 7. Let someone know what route you will be taking and what time they can expect you. 8. Put blankets, water and food in the vehicle in the event you become stranded. 9.
