This is how Kanjur Marg police works THE Kanjurmarg police in Mumbai police are not concerned with the Supreme Court order. Supreme Court may be of the opinion that every complaint should be treated as a first information report (FIR) but the common man still has a very different experience with the Mumbai Police. The S-ward of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) asked the Kanjurmarg police to take action against the two private hospitals that are running illegally but Kanjurmarg police is not willing to do so. ABI (abinet.org) had exposed the illegalities of these hospitals. On June 17, 2014 Sachin Bhosale, health officer of S-ward BMC wrote a letter (copy available with ABI) to Kanjurmarg police station demanding action on Arogyam Hospital at Kanjurmarg. Bhosale informed police that Arogyam and Sai Samruddhi hospitals are running illegally, as hospitals are not registered under Bombay Nursing Home Act. “Our Inspector is investigating the hospital’s matter,” said Nishikant Vishwanath Tungare, Senior Inspector of Kanjurmarg police station. On June 23, 2014 Bhosale also sent letter (copy available with ABI) to assistant health officer (AHO) informing that said hospitals have been sent notice to stop the activities. The senior inspector of Kanjurmarg police station also has been informed about the necessary action. Dr Sandip Sharma of Sai Samruddhi Hospital and Dr Jiten Chaudhary of Arogyam Hospital were also informed through letters (copy available with ABI) that they are running hospitals illegally. BMC officer asked them to stop the hospital’s functioning but hospitals ignored the order. Hospitals are running in full swung. The Hospitals are admitting patients of all sorts. Various surgical procedures are being conducted in the hospital without requisite license. Hospitals also failed to produce the related documents. ABI (abinet.org) had published two articles exposing that how the two hospitals are running without a proper license and registration. The hospitals are not registered under Mumbai Nursing Home Act. Sai Samruddhi On June 11, 2014 ABI (abinet.org) had published an article under headline “Arogyam hospital in Kanjur Marg functioning without license: RTI.” Manish Kotian, the chairman of Bhoja Education and Social Trust (B.E.S.T.) had obtained information through Right to Information (RTI) from the S-ward of BMC about Arogyam hospital. On May 23, 2014 he was informed by S-ward of BMC (copy available with ABI) that the hospital (Arogyam) is not registered under Mumbai Nursing Home Act. Arogyam is located at Gomes Society, Kanjurmarg Village, Kanjurmarg (east). On June 14, 2014 ABI (abinet.org) had published second article under headline “Sai Samruddhi hospital at Kanjur Marg is also functioning without license: RTI.” In an RTI query on May 23, 2014 S-ward of BMC replied (copy available with ABI) that hospital (Sai Samruddhi) is not registered under Mumbai Nursing Home Act. Sai Samruddhi is located at Makkar Estate, Nehru Nagar, Kanjur Village Road, Kanjurmarg (east). When contacted Dr Jiten Chaudhary of Arogyam Hospital said, “at least 80 percent hospitals in Mumbai are illegal. Why are you or BMC targeting only my hospital? Meet me and discuss the issue.” “No comments. Meet me,” said Dr Sandip Sharma of Sai Samruddhi hospital.
