This is, in my opinion, the best documentary about the war in the eastern front. People in the west tend to talk up a lot, thanks largely to German and Russian hating film directors, especially Spielberg, about Normandy, D-day landing, Omaha beach battle etc. But these battles in the west pale in comparison to their counterparts in the east. Measure it in anyway you like: ferocity, ruthlessness, casualties etc. This is not to say, and it should not be said I must say, that the heroics of the soldiers in the west are inferior. But a lot of people in the west seemed to fail to appreciate the contributions of that great Soviet Union without which, the great historian E J Hobsbawm said, WW2 couldnt simply have been won by the allies.
