This is my Rico. He is 10 years old and was raised eating Beniful dog food. He does not eat table scraps and is very well cared for. Recently he has begun to shed and itch. He is constantly scratching and nibbling on his lower back. I have been told that he is allergic to something that he is eating, or the soap we use in his baths (by an ACO). I have changed his food before and that lead to vomiting and diarrhea. When I changed him back he was fine. I was told to give him benadryl for his itching. This doesnt help. He has an appointment with a veterinarian but the soonest I could get him seen is in 2 weeks. Until then he is getting a vitamin E oil rubbed into the affected area and a bitter oil sold to me by Petsmart to keep him from chewing on his skin anymore. I realize that he is 10 years old and his breed tends to have skin issues in the later years of their lives. Is there any other home remedies I can try? He is bathed regularly and checked for fleas daily.
