This is not the first time in US history that the two parties sharing our congress have been at odds. Jefferson and Adams couldnt get along, disagreeing on what shape our government should take. Around the time of Jacksons presidency there was great animosity between the parties, though they werent the republican and democratic parties. There have often been third parties also, Perhaps the most successful was Teddy Roosevelts bull moose party. Most have been small potatoes. Right and left extremes have had parties, like the American nazi party on the far right, and the American communist party on the left. They have been tiny and mostly ineffectual. Todays deadlock and hatred of the liberal side of the democratic party by the conservative republicans, and even more, from the far right tea party seems to have begun when Richard M Nixon resigned. Nixon didnt have political opponents, he had enemies, and even memorialized them on an enemies list. Moderate republicans have been forced to follow the far rights enmity by the threat from the tea party. They have an enemies list that includes moderates. They more closely follow the American nazi party/ku klux klan ideology than the straight forward republican party orthodoxy. Racism and hatred are all the ideology the tea party seem to have. They have absolutely no positive plan for America, just to tear down the country. In my patriots book, they are domestic terrorists and traitors, determined on the downfall of America. They are the American equivalent of al-qaeda or the taliban. I am ready for a new, strong third party, a party dedicated to fixing what is wrong with our country, not just tearing it down.
