This is one of the best explanations Ive seen for antimatter (and why it hasnt blown us all up as yet) so far. You’re probably aware the pretty much the entire Universe is made out of matter. And you may also have heard of antimatter - a mysterious force that has the potential to blow the Universe up and also help us understand how it formed. But what exactly is it, and where does it come from? The latest episode of MinutePhysics provides the best explanation of antimatter we’ve seen so far. It turns out that every single particle out there has an antiparticle. And when the two meet, they annihilate each other. These antiparticles could in theory join together to create antiobjects - but because there’s so much regular matter in the Universe waiting to wipe out antimatter, scientists have so far struggled to keep more than a few hundred anti-hydrogen-atoms together at one time. But although that’s probably a good thing for the safety of the world, it’s also puzzling for physicists, who are now trying to work out why the Big Bang produced so much more matter than antimatter. And they’re using particle smashers like the Large Hadron Collider to replicate this process on the small scale and hopefully one day find out. https://youtube/watch?v=Lo8NmoDL9T8
