This is so fabulous! What do farmers in rural Haiti want? They want to learn how to read and write. Today, Lidè teachers joined with representatives from 2 Haitian farming collectives (Smallholder Farmers Alliance [SFA] and TechnoServe) at a training hosted at Lidè but taught by FONKOZE (provider of both micro-financing and basic skills of literacy, numeracy, small business skills and health). The aim is for the 20 representatives here from the collectives and Lidè to empower 600 rural farming citizens with literacy. The idea came up at the Clinton Global Initiative’s Haiti Action Network Meeting when the farming collectives mentioned that what their members most wanted and needed at this point is literacy…
