This is the 39th anniversary of the release of Caress of Steel! One of my all time favorite albums! Ironically, this album is loved almost exclusively by hard core RUSH fans, and did not do well commercially, almost destroying their career back in the day! But.... Everything that made it not suitable for radio and commercial acceptance is what makes it a fan favorite in my opinion! Why? Because it is Art as expression, not as market campaign. They wrote and composed it all themselves, and it was from their hearts, as opposed to trying to appeal to a certain demographic. The album was raw, crude and primitive, but it featured all of the elements that would eventually make RUSH one of the greatest progressive rock bands of all time! The album was brimming with a very high level of musicianship - kick ass bass, drums and guitar, and the lyrics were conceptual, thought provoking and from the heart! This is one of my favorite songs from the album. This song is part of a multi song conceptual piece, and it features a guitar solo (@ 3:23) that melts my heart and mind every time I hear it! The guitar solo does an amazing job of capturing the emotion of the what the lyrics are trying to say. If you have read this whole rant, you are probably a fellow RUSH fan!
