This is the first hand accounts of the break in on Monday that was privately sent to me to post!!! On Monday afternoon a young girl was walking through our Miller Place neighborhood looking for a friends home. It was noon. She was approximately 21 and alone. After approaching our home she walked down the street, but something about what she wore and how she looked didnt seem quite right. She carried a large satchel. I told my children I was just going to drive down the street and come right back. As I drove, it was as if she just disappeared! Then I saw her in the distance entering the backyard of a home where the couple was at work. (no cars on driveway)I immediately called 911 and when the police arrived she was already walking away from the home, but based on our description they stopped and questioned her. In a matter of minutes, she had entered the home through a back kitchen window, left open for fresh air. She exited the home with the contents of a jewelry box in her pockets and an iPad in her purse. We have now learned from the police that she is from a south shore town, was dropped off here by a friend because its a nice area and she steals to support her heroin habit. I share this story to make everyone aware and to ask that if you see anything suspicious you go with your instinct and call the police. Its better to be safe than sorry. My family and I learned an important life/safety lesson this week. The detectives said that 95% of these grab and go crimes are done to support a drug habit. Please lock your doors and windows, set your alarm and watch whats happening in your own neighborhood.
