Horses not registered in the APHA Regular Registry or APHA Solid Paint-bred/Breeding Registry may be shown in specified performance disciplines (see SC-165D.4), if they have been issued an APHA Performance License. An APHA Performance License is issued for event/class participation only and does not allow the horse to be used as sire or dam of APHA registered foals. 1. APHA Performance License. To obtain an APHA Performance License, the current owner of the horse shall submit an application completed and properly signed, the correct application fee as listed in the front of the rulebook, and provide photographs proving that the horse possesses a “natural Paint marking” exceeding 4-inches, located in the qualifying area detailed in RG-070.G.1. a. Horses showing the characteristics or distinguishing qualities of any other breed are ineligible for a Performance License. b. Horses showing under a Performance License are not eligible to participate in the APHA Breeder’s Trust program. 2. CHANGES IN OWNERSHIP. If the ownership of the horse for which a Performance License has been issued changes, a properly completed and signed transfer form must be submitted along with the appropriate fee (see fee schedule at the front of the rulebook). 3. An APHA Performance License is only eligible for participation in specified performance classes: a. Barrel Racing b. Reining c. Working Cow Horse d. Cutting e. Working Ranch Horse f. Cowboy Mounted Shooting g. Breakaway Roping h. Tie-Down Roping i. Team Roping j. Ranch Sorting k. Team Penning In a nutshell, a grade horse with color and no pedigree can pay to show in the regular classes listed above.
