This is the sort of thing as to why Australia leads only by the time zone we occupy. In the 1990s legislated pollution laws for motor vehicles were stricter in the USA. The Buick engine in my Commodore has a timing chain instead of the cheaper option of timing belt and has no requirement of being changed every 100,000 Kms. Sure timing chains can break as was the case with the small Mercedes 3 years ago lucky we bought the car from a licensed car dealer and it was covered under the statutory warranty. Why do Australian politicians take a beating on these issues simple, we have been manufacturering Solar Hot Water systems since the 1970s yet if you contract a builder to build a new house you will be offered electric storage hot water systems because they are $2000 cheaper to purchase. If you ask them to change over the electric system for Natural Gas Instantaneous with on demand ignition they will complain that they have to place extra 20mm copper pipe for the gas supply and give no credit for the cost of the electric system. You get the idea maybe.
