This is very interesting re Florida law that states the owner of the attacking dog is libel legally speaking for all costs incurred upon the victim be it human or pet: Palm City Man Stuck With $3600 Vet Bill After Neighbors Pit Bull Attacks His Dog Story by Lynn Gordon / CBS 12 News PALM CITY, Fla. -- A Treasure Coast man says the owner of a pit bull that mauled his Chihuahua should be responsible for his pets vet bills. The attack happened in the driveway of his home on Southwest 29th Street in Palm City Friday morning. Andy Johnston said his dog, named Caesar, was nearly killed when a neighbors pit bull escaped from a home about a block away. I didnt think he was going to make it, Johnston said Johnstons roommate Robin Jones was taking Caesar and her dog Ricki out for a walk when Animal Control officers say the pit bull named Zeus came running up the driveway and started attacking both dogs. He was not on a leash. The 85 pound pit bull has been quarantined at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast since he attacked Caesar and Jones dog as well according to an incident report from the Martin County Sheriffs office. That report says Zeuss owner told them her young child opened the door and let the pit bull out without her knowledge. Zeuss owner Vanessa Dion was issued four citations. Her dog wasnt on a leash or vaccinated for rabies. Johnston believes the pit bulls owner should pay for Caesars care.
