This letter appeared today in my local paper on the Editorial Page: Feel free to share. Dream has become a nightmare With the passing of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, I can imagine what he would think of today’s racial stance. The people he strived to make equal have turned a blind eye to his life’s works. He peacefully marched for equal opportunity for all, equal rights and the betterment of his fellow minorities in the workplace. How would he feel after seeing the laziness of kept peoples in this country, a welfare state? I’m sure he wouldn’t like going from slavery to equal rights to social slavery. How would he feel after seeing hardworking Americans of all ethnicities made to take care of the masses that have no ambition? Would he be happy with his dream becoming others’ nightmare? Would he be happy with so many of his close followers now preaching hate? Would he enjoy their racial ambulance chasing? Clearly, today’s black leaders have dropped the reverend’s ball. Equal opportunity, right? Affirmative action forced companies to hire women and minorities, which wasn’t fair at all. With the attitude of, why should I work when I can stay at home and ignore my multiple children from multiple deadbeat dads and the system will take care of me, how can we win? It’s time to drug test welfare recipients and affordable housing tenants. The people who pay for these people are tested. MLK said he wanted to save our children from spiritual death. I don’t see that happening. MLK should be rolling over right now. David W. L.
