This little elder lady was sitting outside the tribal office today when I was leaving. She hurried out of her van as fast as her little legs allowed her to and asked me if I would please buy a pair of beaded earrings from her, as she was out of gas and needed to buy a couple dollars of electricity. She handed me a pair of bright pink and blue beaded earring that had a few beads missing. After inspecting them I embarrassingly heard a disappointed sigh escape my mouth along with a how much? She humbly said would $10.00 be too much.? Reflecting back on how I must have embarrassed her with my heavy sigh, I said lets go to my car and see if I have a $10.00 bill. She followed me with her head bent humbly and stood patiently as I rifled through my purse. After discovering I didnt have a $10 I smiled at her and said Im sorry I dont have 10 dollars, but I hope this $20 will help. The old ladys eyes lit up and she smiled at me, thanked me profusely and walked back to her vehicle where a young girl and a baby waited for her. I couldnt help but think of a story I heard years ago about how The Lord will come to you in many forms... I smiled all the way back to Shelby proudly wearing my earrings with a few beads missing, and thoughts of the smile on the old ladies face that made them worth every dime.
