This made me tear up. What was said about a young girls self-esteem and sense of worth being destroyed during puberty really hit close to home. Ive never seen it so well articulated or even realised the truth of it before. This is exactly how I felt as a girl entering puberty. I think it also highlights for me why its so important to me to write stories where both the hero and the heroine are equal, and why I feel it so important to focus on both characters when Im asked questions about my work. Growing up, I wanted to be the one having the adventure, not the prize at the end, and I applaud those who are highlighting the importance of breaking stereotypes so future generations can just be whoever they are without bowing to societal expectations. So for the jocks, the geeks, the pretties, the unconcerneds, the strongs, the delicates, and for a hundred permutations in between, I hope you always feel you can be whoever you are, no matter your gender.
