This mini-documentary is fascinating to me on many different levels. It is about 2 of my favorite drummers, who have both shaped the way that I approach the instrument. I have never thought about them as being similar, or even remotely related musically. But when presented together, they are clearly cut from the same creative cloth. It is shocking that both Lightning Bolt and Deerhoof are now 20 years old and both making better music than ever. It is almost as if they are approaching the logical conclusion of indie rock. Everything that these bands have accomplished have been due to open minds towards pushing their own creative boundaries. Cheers and thank you to both Brian Chippendale and Greg Saunier!
