This month’s Book Buzz has a nice mixture of fiction and nonfiction and hopefully something for everyone. The first of the nonfiction books is One summer: America 1927 by Bill Bryson which covers a very dramatic summer in America’s history in the world of sports, aviation, politics and other fields. Bill Bryson’s wit and knack of bringing history alive makes this a fascinating read. It was a book club choice last month and greatly enjoyed by all the participants. The other nonfiction book that some of our patrons have recommended this month is Lean in by Sheryl Sandberg. This book written by the COO of Facebook has been on the bestseller list for many weeks and deals with the challenges women face in trying to”have it all”, namely a family and a challenging career. Our patrons have also enjoyed The dead will tell by Linda Castillo which is the 6th in the Kate Burkholder series set in Amish Ohio. This series is getting stronger and stronger as thrilling mysteries and as an exploration of the Amish way of life. Jean Hanff Korelitz’s You should have known is a literary mystery set in contemporary Manhattan and deals with the protagonist’s discovery of how her life changes when she realizes what she does not know about her husband This has become a common theme of books about marriage these days but in Landline by Rainbow Rowell the main character, by means of a magic telephone, is able to go back to her early married years and change the outcome. A popular whimsical choice for our readers. For conventional thriller readers, try Brian Haig, the son of political figure Alexander Haig, for top notch page turners in particular The kingmaker. Speaking of Kingmakers, historical fiction fans will enjoy The Kingmaker’s daughter by Philippa Gregory, part of the Cousin’s War series ,which deals with the life of Anne Neville, wife of the ever controversial Richard III.
